KAGADI- Family of the fallen Kagadi district Education Officer Officer (DEO) Bukenya Bartholomew has released a tentative funeral program for the decent sendoff of their late father and iconic educationist.
Bukenya a celebrated educationist succumbed to undisclosed illness today morning in Kampala leaving behind a remarkable legacy in the education sector in Greater Kibaale district.
Speaking to Paradigm FM at the deceased’s ancestral home in Nyaruziba cell,Kagadi town council this afternoon, the deceased’s brother Micheal Babwetera,the headteacher Kabamba P/S,said the body will be brought home from Kampala tomorrow Thursday 10th April,2025.
On Friday April, 11th,the body will be taken to St. Mary’s catholic church for a requiem mass and on Saturday morning the district will hold an extra ordinary council meeting to pay last respects and honor his legacy of transforming the education sector in the district.
Thereafter, a funeral mass and burial in Nyaruziba cell, Kiraba ward in Kagadi town council.
Babwetere says the family and the district at large have lost a dedicated civil servant whose hard work spirit leaves behind a permanent legacy in the education sector.
The Kagadi District deputy Chief Administrative Officer Vincent Kyaligonza says the district is deeply saddened by Bukenya’s death,whom he says has been ill for the last two months.
He says late Bartholomew Bukenya had applied to the ministry of public service for an early retirement and this would be effective starting July this year.
Meanwhile, some headteachers have eulogized the deceased as a hardworking, smart, a mentor, who would inspire his juniors to love their job.
Meanwhile, the Buyaga East MP Eric Musana has paid tribute to the life and work of the fallen Kagadi District Education Officer Bartholomew Bukenya following his death.
Bukenya died today morning in Kampala after battling undisclosed illness for about two months. MP Musana has described late Bukenya as an icon in education and a development expert in this region.
He also says Bukenya has been a lead advocate for the education of both the girl and boy child. Musana says Bukenya also improved and advocated for teachers’ welfare.
He also says Kagadi and Greater Kibaale community have lost a great inspirational leader and advisor. The Mp has commiserated with the family, relatives and friends.
The late Bukenya has died at 59years.He served as the classroom teacher, Headteacher at Nyaruziba and Kagadi Model primary schools, before his promotion to the District Education Officer position.
