Doreen Uwimaana who was knocked dead by a speeding motorcycle

NEWS- The Police in Kanungu have registered a fatal road accident that claimed the life of a 34 year old businesswoman identified as Doreen Owimana a resident of Kinyangwe village in Kihihi Town Council who operated a shop along Baragaine Street in Kihihi Town Council.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman ASP Elly Maate told journalists today morning that the accident took place yesterday evening when motorcycle registration no UEX 945C Bajaj whose rider’s identities are yet to be established, knocked down the pedestrian who died moments later.

An eye witness alleged that the motorcyclist was riding at a high speed and in the process, knocked the pedestrian who was crossing the road, injuring her critically and both of them were rushed to different hospitals for treatment.

Whereas Owimana was rushed to Nyakibale Hospital on referral, the motorcycle rider was taken to Kigezi Medical Centre in Kihihi Town Council. 

Maate said that the scene of the accident was visited by Police Constable Matanda and the deceased’s body was taken to Kihihi Health Centre IV Mortuary pending a postmortem examination and the motorcycle is parked at Kihihi Police Station pending inspection and the case was registered under reference number TAR 38/2023 to help in investigations. 

Meanwhile the Police in Kabale District are hunting for a motor vehicle that knocked dead a 49 year old woman identified as Charity Musimenta a resident of Nyamukana village in Bugarama Parish in Kabale District.

The accident took place at Nyakyigugwe Trading Center in Kaharo Sub county along Kabale – Mbarara highway where the victim was knocked dead by an unknown vehicle while crossing the road to her home and she died on spot.

The scene was visited by Kabale District Officer in Charge of Traffic Mucunguzi assisted by Police Constable Uwimana and the body was taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination and the case was registered under reference number TAR 109/2023 to help in investigations.
