NEWS- Kanungu District Local Government has earmarked Ugx 59.5 billion as a resource envelope for the Financial Year 2025/2026 of which Ugx 1.4 billion will be locally raised while Ugx 49.5 billion will come from the Central Government as conditional grants, Ugx 2.7 billion will be sourced from other government transfers.
The was revealed yesterday by Kanungu District Chairperson Eng Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo while giving opening remarks at the Annual Budget Conference that took place at Kanungu District Council Hall.
Eng Arinaitwe Kajojo noted that participatory formulation of the budget provides the opportunity for people’s involvement in allocation or resources to priority social service policies and also gives a chance for monitoring public spending and policy performance.
He said that the main objective of this is to communicate the Budget strategy and priorities for the 2025/2026 Financial Year and generate a wider consensus on the proposed priorities for transparency, accountability and ownership.
Eng Arinaitwe Kajojo emphasised that a right and well undertaken budget formulation process is going to help the District to allocate resources effectively and facilitate service delivery, enhance better financial utilization and performance.
The Budget Conference was attended by the District Councilors and Heads of Departments, Non-Governmental organisations, Religious and Opinion Leaders and the Media representatives.
However it was noted during the Budget Conference that the district still faces several challenges in implementation of key priorities sectors in the districts and the district councillors called for increased funding from Central Government and Development Partners.
Meanwhile Chairperson Eng Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo has appealed to all people in Kanungu to participate in the ongoing International Community of Banyakigyezi Convention activities which will climax on December 28th 2024 in Kanungu District.
Eng Arinaitwe Kajojo made the appeal yesterday while speaking at the closure of the Annual District Budget Conference that took place at the District Council Hall in Kanungu District.
The District Chairman said that preparatory meetings are already going on both in Kampala for the National Organising Committee and in Kihihi Town Council for the District Organising Committee and all people should take advantage of these meetings to participate.
Eng. Arinaitwe Kajojo said that Kanungu District is blessed to host this year’s ICOB meeting that draws participants from all over Kigezi Region and beyond and this will enable the people of Kanungu to show case their developments and also tap on the economic benefits that come along with it.
He particularly appealed to hotel owners and all those involved in the hospitality industry and transport sector to take the Convention as a serious matter that will encash on their businesses.
