Dr Chris Baryomunsi officially opening the Computer Hub at Kambuga SSS

KANUNGU- American Tower Corporation Uganda has officially handed over a state of the art fully equipped Computer Hub at Kambuga Senior Secondary School in Kambuga Town Council in Kanungu District.

This is the second Computer Hub American Tower Corporation has put assembled in Kanungu District in conjunction with the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance after another the first one that was opened last year at San Giovanni Secondary school in Kanungu Town Council.

The Computer Hub was lobbied by the Minister of ICT and National Guidance Hon Dr Chris Baryomunsi who is also the Kinkizi East and it will be used by the students at school to improve their academic performance and also be used by the community to access Internet services.

While speaking at the launch, Minister Baryomunsi disclosed that it is the government policy to ensure that all secondary schools across the country get computer hubs so that the students can access them.

Minister Baryomunsi thanked the Board of Governors and Staff of Kambuga for availing a class block where the Computer Hub was assembled with with 20 computers, desks plastic chairs and fully connected to Internet and secured by CCtv.

He said that ever since he became the Kinkizi East Member of Parliament, he has been supporting the schools in the constituency with computers and text books and when he became the Minister of ICT and National Guidance he used his office to reach out to American Tower Corporation to help in the acquisition of the Computer Hubs in Kanungu District as a Corporate Social Responsibility which it accepted to do.

Minister Baryomunsi encouraged the students to make maximum use of the computers and thanked the parents and other stakeholders who have managed to keep their children in school.

The Minister used the opportunity to inform the people of Kambuga Town Council and Kanungu District at large that electricity loadsheding is going to become history after President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni commissioned a substation in Rubanda District which will stabilise the electricity supply in Kigezi Region.

He said that starting next year, primary and secondary education are going to become compulsory and warned parents who will fail to have their school going children at school to expect stringent punishments, but meanwhile asked the district leaders to make a bye laws that can be used to ensure that the children remain in second complete their education cycle.

The Deputy Headtecher Kambuga SSS, Ms Edina Bakakunda said that the school is Church of Uganda founded and is O and A level a mixed day and boarding with a total of 350 students.

Ms Bakakundana thanked Minister Baryomunsi for linking the school to American Tower Corporation Uganda which has given them a Computer Hub and said that it will go along way in improving the academic standards at the school.

She also thanked American Tower Corporation Uganda for accepting to take their services to the school and went ahead to paint the entire building where the Computers were put.

The representative of America Tower Corporation, Jonathan Gombya who is in Charge of Digital Communities, said that they have connected 77 learning centers across the country 52 are in education sector and 25 of these are 8n the health sector.

Gombya said that American Tower Corporation Uganda is helping to build a more connected Uganda by providing communications solutions to meet today’s evolving network demands.

American Tower provides the infrastructure backbone for customers to build strong, reliable, and evolving networks to connect communities nationwide. 

The colorful event was attended by the Members of the Board of Governors, PTA chairman John Tumwebaze, local political and religious leaders, students and teachers.
