NEWS– The Police in Kihihi Town Council in Kanungu District are hunting for yet to be identified thugs who burnt to ashes a vehicle belonging to Kanungu District Speaker Frank Byaruhanga.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman ASP Elly Maate has confirmed the incident which happened on Friday night at Ruyayo village in Kihihi Central Ward, Kihihi Town Council at the residence of Speaker Byaruhanga where motor vehicle registration number UAX 023S was parked.

Maate said that the case was reported on Saturday morning by Ndyabahaki Ronald, a son to Speaker Byaruhanga who was in the house at the time of the attack together with Mwesigye Anthony whom together they heard a loud bang outside and upon checking, they saw the vehicle on fire and two men fleeing from the scene. 

Its reported that they raised an alarm and removed power from main switch as they fought off the fire with water and sand but they failed to put it out.

Scene of incident was visited by a team of detectives led by OC Kihihi Police Station Tumukunde Emmanuel who immediately condoned it off and a sniffer dog was introduced to the scene but nothing positive was achieved.

By press time, no suspects had been apprehended as a case was registered at Kihihi Police Station under reference number CRB 30/2024 to help in investigations as the Police hunts for the suspected thugs.
