NEWS– Kanungu District Local Government has recognized Chaperone International a Non Governmental Organisation for its outstanding impact in transforming surgical, dental, maternal, child and general healthcare service delivery in Kanungu District and Uganda as a country.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of a three week surgical and dental health camp at Kanungu Health Center IV Kataate, Kanungu district Chairperson Eng Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo appreciated Dr Holger Listle and partners from Germany for their enduring effort to transform the facility.
The surgical camp has brought together experts from Germany and Uganda to conduct hundreds of life saving surgical procedures and dental services.
“Kanungu District Local Government is pleased to benefit from the public private partnership that has brought us together to undertake this noble initiative which is a clear testament of the power of collaboration, generosity and true compassion that exists among nations”, Eng Arinaitwe Kajojo said.
While handing over an award to the organisation’s founder, Dr Holger Listle from Germany, Chairman Arinaitwe Kajojo congratulated Chaperone for enduring hardships to continue with their great work which has attracted people from all over the district and beyond because of the excellent quality and the compassionate care with which they serve.
The event to close the surgical and dental health camp coincided with the official opening of Kanungu Health Center IV Laboratory and HIV Clinic donated by Chaperone International which include the addition of 5 rooms to host a dispensary, clerking section, counseling resource centre, store and washrooms for staff.
According to Dr Holger, the laboratory will also receive a solar power boost and more equipment including blood and urine culture and sensitivity and a fine care machine for capabilities in testing prostate specific antigen, thyroid and fertility hormones testing among others.
He appreciated the cordial relationship they share with Kanungu District Local Government and pledged that the organization will give more support and improvements at the health facility.
Speaking at the same event, the Assistant District Health Officer thanked Chaperone International for improving maternal and child health care outcomes in the district by donating an operation theatre and personnel support and pledged support from the District Health Department for continued progress.
The Incharge of Kanungu Health Center IV, Dr Tumwesigye Timothy and management chairperson, Mrs Atwine Justine Kakuru expressed gratitude for the contribution of Chaperone International in infrastructure, equipment and personnel development at the facility.
“Kanungu Health Center IV is the most visited health facility in Kanungu District and this shows the level of trust the district has in us. Day by day, we are growing to serve more people, including neighboring districts even outside our main catchment. We appreciate Chaperone International for supporting us with 27 staff.” Dr Tumwesigye revealed.
The function was also attended by Hospital Project Administrator, Martin Atukwase Kafanta, and visiting surgical and dental teams from Germany, visitors from Romania, religious organizations leaders, local leaders and staff.
