NEWS- The Police in Kanungu District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of an 87-year-old man identified as John Byomuhangi a resident of Kiruruma village in Rushaka Parish in Nyamirama Sub- County.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the death of Byomuhangi who allegedly died on Saturday 26th April 2025 afternoon.
It’s alleged that Byomuhangi went to the party that was organized at the home of Kyampire Mebro in the neighborhood and was served food in the same dish. However after eating, he started complaining of severe stomachache and when the situation worsened, the residents carried him to the nearby health facility where he was declared dead on arrival.
When the residents who carried him realised that he had died, they took the body to Police Station who took it to Kihihi Health Centre IV for postmortem examination where relevant samples were picked for forensic analysis at Government Analytical Laboratory.
Maate has since called on the relatives of the deceased to remain calm and wait for the outcome of the Laboratory reports and should work with Police to establish the rightful cause of death.
This comes after the residents became bitter and advocating for the arrest of Kyampire when investigations are still ongoing.
