NEWS- The Police in Kanungu District are investigating circumstances surrounding a couple being admitted in hospital as a result of domestic violence.
Kigezi Regional Police spokesman Elly Maate told journalists that 39 year old Tugume Frank a carpenter and a resident of Kazuru cell, Bushura Parish, Kirima Sub county in Kanungu district went back to his home while drunk on Sunday evening.
It is reported that is wife Nisiima Joventah waited for the husband to fall asleep and then poured hot water onto him and also cut the husband severally around various parts of his body using a panga.
However, the children woke up following the alarm raised by their father and saved him, and the suspect is reported to have taken poisoned herself with suspected herbicide.
Maate said that the relatives to the victim also responded to the alarm and both victims were rushed to Katate Health Center but Tugume was referred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital where he is recieving treatment but in critical condition.
Maate said that the Police were notified by Niwagaba Josephat and the crime scene was visited, documented and relevant exhibits that included plastic bottle containing white substance suspected to be poison, a panga and a flask containing suspected blood stains were recovered.
Meanwhile the Police in Kanungu District have arrested Twinomuhwezi Phillip allegedly for theft of coffee beans after being reported by Asiimwe Onesmus resident of Ntabagwe village in Kihembe Parish in Kanyantorogo sub county.
It’s alleged that unknown person went to the coffee garden of Asiimwe and picked coffee beans and Asiimwe went to Kanungu Police Station to report the case and the service of Police sniffer dog to track the unknown suspect were sought.
Upon reaching the scene which was well protected and reserved, the dog introduced to the scene picked up the scent and tracked for a distance of 300 meters and led police to the house of the suspect where some dropped coffee beans were seen inside after he directed where he sold the coffee to a businessman Promise of the same village and the suspect was accordingly arrested with exhibited and detained at Kanungu Police Station.
