NEWS- Justice livelihoods health a nongovernmental organization operating in Kasese District has embarked on training religious and cultural leaders in the District on how they could also join the campaign of fighting gender bases violence (GBV) which is eating up most families in the community they serve.
At a one day training organized by the organization at Kasese central Baptist church in Kasese town which was aiming at training the leaders on how based they could join the fight was attended by leaders from Karusandara, Munkunyu, Nyakiyumbu sub-county and Kasese Municipality.
Ms. Jackline Akong the gender trainer at Justice livelihoods health said religious and cultural leaders can play a significant role in preventing and addressing gender-based violence (GBV) in their communities since they are often respected and trusted by their communities.
Ms. Akong says the leaders can use their moral authority to condemn GBV and promote values of respect, equality, and compassion through their access to large audiences.
She also said the leaders have grassroots connections with local communities, enabling them to understand specific needs and concerns.
Mr. Joshua Kasengya the senior project coordinator at the Justice livelihoods health revealed that the program would benefit all denominations.
In another development, the Government has announced that it is going to construct 69 soil laboratories in selected districts across the country to enhance research on soil quality and fertility.
This comes amidst concerns of poor yields due to poor soil infertility which has led to calls of increased utilization of fertilizers with hope of leading to improved soil fertility.
The revelation was made at the just concluded engagement of the Ministry of Agriculture,partners and scientists discussing the domesticating of soil fertilizers and soil health action plan,that was held at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala.
According to Fredrick Bwino Kyakulaga a Microbiologist and State Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries govt will establish the labs with collaboration with district extension workers who are entrusted with the responsibility of sensitizing farmers on best farming practices that could lead to better yields.
