NEWS- Kasese District National Unity Platform leaders have appreciated the sanctions put on some of the Ugandan top political leaders on issues of corruption and Misuse of funds and their offices.
This was revealed on Monday morning in a press conference that was held at the Kasese District party political office located on Alexander Street in Central Division Kasese Municipality.
The United States imposed sanctions on Uganda’s parliamentary speaker, her husband and several other officials over corruption and serious abuses of human rights.
Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu, a former deputy chief of Uganda’s military, was sanctioned over “extrajudicial killings” committed by government troops. Three former government ministers, recently implicated in the theft of roofing sheets that were not distributed to members of an impoverished community, were also sanctioned including Ms. Agnes Nantutu and Ms. Goretti Kitutu.
Now Mr. Bryn Basisa the Kasese District NUP Political Party chairperson says those officials deserve the sanctions since it is evidenced that they misused their offices.
Mr. Jonan Bwambale Bamwenda the Busongora county North Member of Parliament hopeful says such leaders are contributing to underdevelopment of the country.
Mr. Robert Asingya Muthoma the secretary for NUP Kasese Municipality says leaders must be hold accountable as one way to address corruption which is on increase in the country.
Moses Sesabyona and Mr. Cleus Bwambale of Bukobzo East says Kasese Mps should also come out and give their stand on the current situation in the country of collecting signatures to censure leaders who are corrupt.
