NEWS- A section of farmers in Nyamwamba Division of Kasese Municipality is demanding a permanent solution to the persistent wild animals that invade their crop farms.
The farmers, who addressed the press on Monday, argue that they have suffered a lot of losses because of the damage the wild animals inflict on their crops.
Mr. John Owe, a water melon farmer who says he has since embraced President Museveni’s four-acre model, notes that his efforts have often gone to waste as animals from queen Elizabeth national park always destroy his crops.
He opines that there is an urgent need to erect an electric fence so that the wild animals are barred from straying into the community.
Mr. Matius Makumbi, Ms. Jessica Masika and Margret Biira all farmers in Nyamwamba Division also argue that in addition to the Parish Development Model-PDM funds, they have also procured loans from commercial banks to invest in agriculture yet the animals keep ravaging their farms making it difficult for them to service their loans.
They now want the matter addressed by the president when he comes over for a PDM tour in the district. Mr. Ruhweza Mageya says they hope the president addresses this issue and have it resolved once and for all.
