NEWS- The Police in Kasese have confirmed the death of 13 year old girl identified as Kabugho Mary who was killed by mudslide last night in Kibandama I, Kibandama Parish in Kilembe Sub-county.
The Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesman Nelson Tumushime explained that the landslides hit a house where the vulnerable innocent young girl slept in a room separate from her two brothers who survived.
According to official records, separate landslides in Kasese during the ongoing rainy season has so far claimed 4 lives of members of the community as a result of floods and mudslides.
It should be remembered that mountainous areas are especially prone to treacherous flooding with accompanying mudslides.
The Uganda Police has since cautioned residents to avoid the mountain areas saying that early warning systems need to be prioritized and people are advised to avoid areas prone to mudslides.
The Police also advised that anyone in danger should leave the mountainous area and reallocate to higher ground or seek shelter to safer places as the rains are expected to continue for a month.
