This comes at a time when Mbarara City has secured 500 million shillings from the Ministry of Works and Transport to start the rehabilitation of Katete Bridge effective August this year, sparking concerns among residents that city leaders might inflate the Bills of Quantities.
Hillary Mugisha, the Mbarara City Engineer, disclosed that the scope of work will include removing the deck, installing guardrails and applying a wearing course, all of which will cost 500 million shillings.
However, in the same meeting, the Mbarara city Mayor, Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi urged residents to remain calm as the city council plans to rehabilitate the bridge next month.
