Kigezi Region Police PRO ASP Elly Maate

The Police in Kanungu have registered a fatal accident that claimed a student of Kihanda Technical Institute identified as 17 year old Lazarious Ainebyoona.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the accident which took place at Rugando Trading Centre along Kateete – Kihanda Road in Kanungu District.

Maate said that the details of the vehicle remain unknown and the deceased who was aboard the fateful truck returning from a Scouts Camp in Katete fell off and died on spot.

Maate explained that the scene of the accident was visited by Police led by PC Matanda who retrieved the body of the deceased and conveyed it to Kihihi Health Centre IV Mortuary for a postmortem examination and investigations are going on to look for the driver of the truck who failed to report the matter to the nearest Police station.

In oter news, the Police in Kisoro District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 32 years old man identified as Allan Maniragaba a resident of Kinyababa Ward in Kyanika Town Council.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate told journalists today that the deceased was allegedly killed by Emmanuel Twesigye a Boda Boda rider of Kabara village Nyakabingo parish Chahi Sub-county also in Kisoro distric last night who was today afternoon found with the deceased phone.

Maate told journalists that it’s alleged that the deceased went for work at Kyanika Bodaboda stage where he kept there the whole day, and in the evening, he left work and went for social evening at Junction Bar along Cyanika Road where he was seen drinking a coffee waragi with other people. 

Itvis reported that when it became evening, the wife made several phone calls, but in vain, until today morning when he was discovered lying dead along the way, just a few meters from his home by pupils who were going to school.

The pupils notified the local residents and the area chairperson George Biriko immediately went and reported the matter to Chahi Police Station, who also alerted  Kisoro Central Police Station and the scene of crime was visited, processed and documented and statements from witnesses were recorded and the exhibits of vomitus were recovered from the scene for toxicological analysis.

Maate said that the body of the deceased was conveyed to Kisoro General Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination and during preliminary investigations the suspect was found with the deceased mobile phone and was accordingly arrested to assist in further investigations.
