NEWS- The Rukungiri District 2025 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) has finally come to climax with Kyabugashe High School winning a brace.

Kyabugashe High School emerged winners after defeating St. Jerome Secondary School Ndama in Girls football with 2 goals to nil, and one nil in the boys’ football in a thriller played at Rukungiri Main stadium in Rukungiri Municipality on Saturday, March 29th 2025.

Kyabugashe defeated Kashenyi Secondary School in the semifinal as St. Jerome Secondary School Ndama had knocked Rwabukoba Secondary School to reach the final.

This year’s trophy is the third consecutive one for Kyabugashe High School Girls team.

Rukungiri district boss Geoffrey Kyomukama who was the day’s Chief guest pointed out that sports help students to discover and develop their talents, while advancing values and competences that will prepare them for the rapidly changing world.

Kyomukama added that some students have already benefited from sports whereby they have acquired bursaries and are studying on free of charge from different schools.

The District boss announced that the district has already received funds to refurbish Rukungiri main stadium lobbied by security Minister Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi, stressing that in the near future, its situation will be handled.

Dan Ahimbisibwe Bahamire, the chairperson for Rukungiri district secondary schools sports committee noted that this year’s football tournament was a different from the recent ones since almost all secondary schools participated.

Ahimbisibwe was grateful to the school directors and head teachers for the team work exhibited during this year’s preparation and execution, pointing out that this will help the learners to explore their talents.

Bernard Tumusiime and Natukunda Queen Elizabeth, team captains for Kyabugashe High School told our reporter that their success emanated from hard work and passion for sports promising to do the same as they head to the Regional level.

The duo promised to also bring home regional trophies since the school management and administrators are all behind their success.
