NEWS- Kampala Capital City Authority Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago in in Paris France where he led a delegation to attend a four-day Partnership For Health Cities Summit  aimed at equipping Mayors and Technical Leads with evidence based solutions to address  Noncommunicable Diseases and Injuries.

Kampala City, with support from Bloomberg Philanthropies and Vital Strategies is in Partnership with a prestigious global network of 74 Cities committed to saving lives by preventing Noncommunicable Diseases and injuries.

With over half the global population living in urban settings, cities play a critical role in developing, implementing and enforcing policies to create healthy environments.

Non communicable diseases (NCDs), and injuries such as road traffic deaths kill almost 46 million people globally each year.

The Partnership for Healthy Cities, supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies in partnership with the World Health Organization and global health organization Vital Strategies, is a global network of 74 cities whose leaders have committed to prevent Non Communicable Diseases that include cancer, diabetes, heart disease and chronic lung disease and injuries through proven interventions.

As part of their work with the Partnership, each city selects one of 14 evidence-based interventions to prevent Non Communicable Diseases and injuries, based on World Health Organization guidance.

The Cities benefit from technical expertise from network partners, and peer-to-peer learning from other member cities and the network also runs a Policy Accelerator which supports cities to draft and introduce policies to prevent Non Communicable Diseases and injuries.

Health Cities Partnership bring together health, social care and voluntary sector organisations across smaller areas to work as one and they play a fundamental role in the way health and care is provided for people in their areas, linking services to ensure people can get the care they need in the right place and at the right time.

The Partnership for Healthy Cities is a global network of 74 cities committed to creating healthier, safer and more equitable urban centers by reducing the prevalence of noncommunicable diseases and injuries.
