KAMPALA- The security guards at Kisenyi Bus Terminal have arrested a passenger who was found to be travelling with a hidden gun with ammunition, pangas, and petrol.
The Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, has identified the suspect as David Tumwine, alias Busoni, a 40-year-old resident of Mubuteraniro village in Mubende District. The suspect was found in possession of two bags containing a gun and other weapons.
According to Police, the suspect was intercepted at around 9:00 am at Kisenyi Bus Terminal for a security check. When Tumwine, who was carrying two bags, was asked to stop for inspection, he attempted to flee, abandoning his belongings.
The terminal’s security team swiftly pursued and apprehended the suspect. Upon inspecting his bags, the following items were discovered: A sub-machine gun (SMG), 24 live rounds of ammunition, 2 magazines, 3 pangas, 1-liter bottle of petrol, and Ropes were recovered.
Police preliminary investigations reveal that Tumwine was travelling from Kyotera District and was en route to Busia. We are currently working to establish the source of the firearm and the suspect’s intentions.

Umaru Matoovu, the Chairperson of the Uganda Bus Operators Association (UBOA), has told Uganda this reporter that the successful arrest of the suspect is a direct result of their recent decision to increase the number of security guards at all bus terminal managements.
Police has since commended the vigilance of the guards on duty at Kisenyi bus terminal; “We commend the vigilant and procedural approach of the security personnel at Kisenyi Bus Terminal, whose diligence averted a potential criminal act. This incident underscores the importance of maintaining robust security measures to ensure public safety. Further updates will be provided as investigations progress.”Owoyesigyire noted.
