NEWS- The Police in Rukungiri district have apprehended a 54-year-old man for allegedly murdering his 44-year-old wife.

The suspect has been identified as James Kashaija, a resident of Rwanama village, Kahoko parish, Nyakishenyi sub-county, Rukungiri district and is in custody for allegedly murdering his own wife, Enid Ndyomugyenyi.

According to the police report, Twinamatsiko Phinehas told police that on 3rd April 2024 at around 11pm at Rwanama village, the suspect returned home from a social evening at Omukikona trading centre. After reaching home, he accused his wife of being drunk, woke her up, and a quarrel ensued.

Kashaila then pulled her off the bed, used a piece of old timber to assault her legs, knees, and neck leaving her naked and helpless on the floor. Subsequently, he slept in another room.

On 4th April 2024 at around 7am, she was found dead and he alerted his daughter, Tushabomwe Emily, who informed others, including Twinamatsiko Phinehas, who reported to the police.

ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region police spokesperson, told our reporter that when the police were notified, the crime scene was visited, examined, and documented.

Statements were recorded from relevant witnesses, and exhibits of black gumboots and an old piece of timber were recovered. The suspect was arrested, and the body was conveyed to Rwakabengo Health Centre III mortuary for postmortem examination.

Maate further revealed that inquiries into the matter are ongoing, and the case was officially registered at Rukungiri Central Police Station under reference number CRB 377/2024.
