Motorists on tenterhooks as Police impounds 102 vehicles, 98 motorcycles in curfew operation

KAMPALA- The residents of Kazo Central in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, are in shock after a brutal domestic dispute resulted in the death of a 25-year-old woman at the hands of her husband.

The victim has been identified as Doroh Perus Nalubega is the victim of a fatal domestic dispute, who has been killed by her husband, James Luwaga on Tuesday.

Some of the neighbors said that the couple had a dispute the previous night, which appeared to have been resolved. However, the suspect allegedly attacked the victim this morning after luring her into their home.

The victim made an alarm which attracted the neighbors, who sought help from the area chairman. Upon their arrival, they found the suspect fleeing the scene and later discovered the victim lying lifeless in a pool of blood.

The suspect was arrested by community members while trying to flee and handed him to police. Moses Muyinda, one of the neighbors who apprehended the suspect, told this publication that the couple had a long-standing dispute.

He said the issue began when the suspect allegedly stole 200,000 Uganda shillings from the victim, prompting her to temporarily leave the house and seek refuge from the neighbors.

Muyinda explained, “The woman had left her husband, accusing him of stealing her money, which infuriated Luwaga. However, last night, he convinced her to return home to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, their argument escalated into a violent fight that lasted throughout the night, and tragically, the husband killed his wife this morning.”Muyinda said.

Some residents condemned the brutal act, citing unchecked anger among some men as a contributing factor to the loss of live.

Susan Nankya, the area councilor, denounced the practice of cohabiting marriages without parental knowledge or approval. She noted that in this case, the couple’s secretive relationship has left them without any information on her parents except the information that she originated from Sembabule district.

Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire said, the murder weapon has been recovered and preserved for forensic analysis as investigations are ongoing.”We urge members of the public, especially couples, to seek peaceful and civil ways of resolving domestic conflicts rather than resorting to violence.”Owoyesigyire said.

The deceased’s body has been taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Notably, the 2024 annual crime report indicated alarming statistics on domestic violence-related deaths in Uganda, with 183 fatalities recorded nationwide. The breakdown showed that 82 male adults and 75 female adults lost their lives to aggravated domestic violence.
