SPORT- Mitooma district residents and Ugandans a s a whole have been asked to take lead in exercising and sports to fight non communicable diseases and promote unity.
The call was made yesterday by the Ruhinda South Legislator Captain Mugabe Dononzio Kahonda while delivering gifts and trophies to the winners of the 12th edition of Kahonda Christmas cup tournament that was held at Mayanga play ground in Mayanga Sub county, Mitooma district.
Kahonda noted most of the diseases such as hypertension, diabetes among others emerge from failure to exercise thus asking people to endeavor regular exercises to remain healthy.
The Mitooma district Sports officer Twezirikire Amuram expressed his gratitude for development of sports through such tournaments and thanked Hon Kahonda for making this tournament sustainable over years not for political reasons but talent development.
Denis Turwomwe the chairperson organizing committee of this tournament noted that many talents have been identified in this tournament and football development has gone to a great level.
Mayanga Sub County emerged the champions of men football after defeating Kabira Town council with a 3:4 penalty shootout and Nyakizinga Sub County merged champions of women football after defeating Mayanga Sub County by a goal to nil.
The champions were awarded a trophy and a cow each and winners of other fields of athletics were awarded with mattresses and blankets.
