Maziba dam

The Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited team is expected at the Old Maziba Dam this week to assess the facility and plan the commencement of reconstruction and rehabilitation works.

The development follows efforts by former Kabale District Woman MP Hon Catheline Ndamira Atwakiire and former Ndorwa East MP Hon Wilfred Niwagaba who raised the condition of the dam last year, leading to the allocation of Ugx 5 billion towards its reconstruction and rehabilitation.

Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited is the government-owned company responsible for developing, managing and operating Uganda’s public electricity generation infrastructure.

The Company is also mandated to oversee the generation of reliable and affordable electricity from the country’s hydropower and other generation assets and the visit to Maziba is therefore expected to pave the way for the rehabilitation works, with the assessment helping to establish the scope of works and timelines for commencement.

The rehabilitation of the Old Maziba Dam is expected to restore and improve the facility’s functionality while supporting the wider goal of strengthening electricity generation infrastructure in the country.
