NEWS- The Rwizi Regional Police Fire and Rescue Services this week registered a drowning case of a 17 year old student of Mbarara Secondary School, Jordan Balimwiaug.
The deceased according to SP Samson Kasasira the Rwizi Region Police Spokesman was a resident of Kiswahili cell, Kakoba ward in Mbarara City.
The incident happened on 8th April 2024 at around 11:57pm at Katete Beach where he had gone swimming.
The fire department responded to the scene on 9th April 2024 at about 8:23am and conducted a search to retrieve the body but their efforts weren’t fruitful.
Kasasira told the press that the search for the body is still ongoing and investigations into the drowning have been opened to ascertain the cause of drowning.
In a related incident, the Police in Mbarara City on 4th April 2024 at around 4:20 Pm at the bridge before Nyamitanga along the Mbarara Kabale Road registered a hit and run fatal accident involving motor vehicle UAV 096U ISUZU FORWARD and a pedestrian identified as Ndyanabo Fred a student of St Joseph Vocational School Mbarara who died on the spot.
It’s alleged that the above mentioned motor vehicle was from Kabale side headed to Mbarara side when it lost control at the bridge and knocked a pedestrian that was keeping his left lane headed to town, killing him on spot.
Eye witnesses were able to identify the registration number plates of the motor vehicle and it’s being tracked with the help of the CCTV Cameras.
The body of the deceased was conveyed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem as inquiries into the matter are still ongoing.
