NEWS– Traders in Kabwohe town, Sheema District are counting losses after a fire outbreak destroyed property worth millions.
The fire according to eye witnesses started on Wednesday morning at around 1:30 AM, at a shop along the Mbarara – Kabwohe stage, with residents noticing smoke coming from the rooftop.
SSP Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson told the press that Sheema Police team was notified and promptly responded to the scene for rescue operations.
SSP Tumusiime added that the fire team from Bushenyi region headquarters jpoined the rescue team and managed to extinguish the fire adding that only one block was mainly affected, while other blocks remained safe.
According to him, the affected shops included Birakali Elioda’s wholesale general merchandise shop, Mucungunzi Jackson’s boutique and Muhereza Nathan’s mini supermarket.
Preliminary police findings suggest that an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause.
