KANUNGU- The Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, has urged the youth in Kanungu District to use funds from the Parish Development Model wisely by investing in development projects that can help alleviate poverty in their families.

Minister Baryomunsi made these remarks yesterday during a meeting with youth council leaders from various Sub-counties in Kinkizi East County which was held at the Kanungu District Hall in Kanungu Town Council, aimed to assess the performance of the PDM and whether young people in the area have been receiving funds from the program.

During the meeting it was noted that some youth in Kinkizi East County had received PDM funds and invested them in productive enterprises, which aligned with the primary objective of the program, to foster wealth creation and shift people from subsistence living to more sustainable livelihoods.

Minister Baryomunsi, who is also the Member of Parliament for Kinkizi East, explained that the government allocated Ugx 100 million annually to each parish SACCO under the PDM, with youth expected to receive 30% of these funds and advised the youth to focus on investing the funds in productive and profitable ventures.

While speaking at rhe same event, Kanungu RDC, Ambrose Mwesigye Amanyire encouraged the youth to actively support government programs such as PDM, Emyooga and other developmental initiatives aimed at combating poverty within families.

Among the note key speakers at the event was Kanungu Deputy Speaker Loyce Kembabazi who has thanked the governament of Uganda led by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for introducing programes like PDM and Emyoga that benefit the Youth across the country.

The District Commercial Officer Caleb Owomuhangi requested the youth to ensure that they return the money they took from Parish Development Model SACCO because it is a rotational fund that will be given to others.

Kanungu District Youth Council Chairperson Believe Niwagaba thanked the Minister for ICT and National Guidance Hon Dr Chris Baryomunsi for suporting Kanungu Youth through providing skilling centers that have helped many to create employment for themselves.

Niwagaba said that a similar engagement was earlier held at Kihihi High School in Kihihi Town Council in Kanungu District which brought together the youth from Kinkizi West Constituency.
