KANUNGU- The Minister of ICT and National Guidance Hon Dr. Chris Baryomunsi has underscored the importance on digital transformation in all parts of the country in order to help the people emerge from primitive methods of production and embrace modern technology.
Dr. Baryomunsi who is also the Kinkizi East Member of Parliament, made the remarks on September 27th 2024 while speaking as the Chief Guest at the Commissioning of a Digitaliser Computer Center at San Giovanni Secondary School Makiro in Kanungu Town Council which was donated by American Tower Corporation Uganda.
The Minister said that the government through the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance has reached out to development partners to provide the much needed digital transformation so that people can use it to get out of poverty.
ATC Uganda operates a multitenant communications and integrated telecommunications business and the company’s services include provision of wireless and broadcast towers, in-door and out-door antenna systems, and related services that speed network deployment for the wireless and broadcast communications industry.
From its 1995 origin as an American Radio subsidiary, American Tower today is a fortune company making a positive impact on people and communities around the globe.
Minister Baryomunsi hailed the Organization for accepting to make investments returns in Kanungu District by operationalising the San Giovanni Secondary School Digital Computer Center which will provide free Computer training and Internet services to the school and the surrounding Community.
The Minister said that digital revolution has come to stay and it’s the government duty to ensure that the population is given opportunity to understand how to harness it and use to transform their lives.
While speaking at the event, ATC Uganda Chief Executive Officer Ms. Dorothy Kabagambe Ssemanda said that 42 state of the art computers have been fully installed at San Giovanni Secondary School and will provide free services as one way to revolutionalise the digital transformation in the District.
She said that the Computer will be maintained by ATC Uganda and help train the students and the community in Computer coding, Web designing and Cyber security on top of training the trainees that will continue with the training of new comers.
Ms. Semanda said that ATC Uganda has already opened up several Digital Computer Centers in the country and they will ensure that these facilities help the people of Uganda use Computer knowledge free of charge to better their lives.
She said that integrity and accountability are important and they are core principles and value and said that their assets are part of the community transformation and asked the communities to guard them jerously.
She revealed that ATC Uganda is dedicated to providing continuous career development through self-study, web-based and instructor-led courses that help support one of the most talented workforces in the industry.
The Head teacher San Giovanni Secondary School Denis Tukamushaba hailed Minister Baryomunsi who connected the school to ATC Uganda early this year which has seen them get the modern computer hub the only one in the entire District.
Tukamushaba assured the Minister and other stakeholders that the Computer Center will be fully utilised to benefit the community for the betterment of transforming the students of San Giovanni and the surrounding community to change their lives.
He said that the availability of the Digital Computer Center at the school will not only help the students and teachers but the neighboring schools and entire community in Kanungu District.
The function was attended by head of institutions from neighboring schools and it is hoped that their students will have the opportunity to use the facility.
San Giovanni Secondary School was starred in 1984 by Kabale Diocese and is a day and boarding Advanced Level School.
