RUKUNGIRI- The Minister of Security Maj Gen Jim Katugugu Muhwezi has urged the clergy to support the government wealth creation programs like Parish Development Model program to uplift the living standards of the church and their own wellbeing. 

Minister Jim Muhwezi who is also the Member of Parliament for Rujumbura Constituency in Rukungiri District made the remarks today April 6th 2025 while speaking as the Guest of Honor at the installation of Ven Rev Amos Katushabe and his wife Catherine as the 1st Archdeacon of Kyabugashe Archdeaconry at St Peter’s Church of Uganda.

The colourful event was presided over by the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese Rt Rev Onesimus Asiimwe who was accompanied by his wife Maama Florence, the Archdeacons and Clergy from all over the Diocese. 

Gen Muhwezi noted that when the christians are economically empowered, they will have the financial means to support the development of the church and also minimise conflicts in their communities.

Minister Jim Muhwezi asked the christians to receive the newly installed Archdeacon Rev Katushabe and his wife and work with him to cause positive change and development in their Archdeaconry.

He pledged to support the new Archdeacon and ensure that the Church structures which has been accommodating a Parish, is expanded to accommodate an Archdeaconry and is maintained at that level since it’s the very Church where her parents worked when he joined the struggle to get rid dictatorial regime.

Earlier, while preaching on the occasion, Bishop Asiimwe underscored the need for leaders to know the assignment handed over to them so that they can fullfil the satisfaction of the those they lead.

The Bishop called for unity in the district especially now when the country is gearing up for the election season and hailed the current leadership led by the LC 5 Chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama for maintaining the unity which has fostered development. 

The newly installed Archdeacon Rev Katushabe thanked all the people who have worked together to ensure the success of the day and in a special way thanked the Bishop and his wife who prayed for his family during the trying moments when his wife was admitted in hospital early this year.

He also extended appreciation to the Guest of Honor Gen Jim Katugugu Muhwezi for sacrificing his busy schedule to ensure that he personally attended the function. 

The function was attended by a multitude of people from Kyabugashe Archdeaconry, including those from Kakinga Archdeaconry in greater Kebisoni where he previously served, school children and believers from other denominations.
