Minister Judith Nabakooba's vehicle that was involved in the accident

The Minister of Lands Housing and Urban Development, Hon Judith Nabakooba Nalule, has today morning survived a nasty road accident at Kibukuta swamp in Mpigi District while travelling to Rwampara for an official ceremony to hand over land titles.

Preliminary Police reports indicate that the Minister was in a convoy with her team when the incident occurred at the swamp, located near Jalia City along the Kampala-Masaka highway.

The Traffic Police Spokesman Micheal Kananura confirmed the accident but declined to divulge the details of the cause of the crash and the extent of damage to the vehicle are still emerging, but sources close to the Minister indicate that she and her entourage survived the accident and serious injuries have been reported.

The Minister who was heading to Rwampara District to hand over a land titles as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to issue land titles to citizens and resolve land disputes was rescued and rushed to safety.

Kibukuta swamp is known to be a notorious black spot for road accidents, particularly during the rainy season when the road surface becomes slippery and visibility is often reduced.

Kananura however said that the Police traffic officers rushed to the scene to manage the situation and investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and promised to release a detailed report later regarding the condition of the Minister and her team, as well as the exact cause of the accident.

This incident comes at a time when the Traffic Police have heightened highway patrols along major roads across the country ahead of Easter Festive season that began this week with Palm Sunday celebrations.
