KAMPALA- The Minister of Water and Environment is urging members of the public of have erected structures or living in wetlands to start preparing to vacate as preparations are underway for rampant evictions in a bid to restore degraded areas.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Environment Hon Beatrice Anywar while officiating at the 9th Board of Directors of National Environment Management Authority following their approval by Cabinet.
The Board plays a pivotal role in providing strategic oversight and policy guidance to NEMA, ensuring the implementation of Uganda’s environmental laws and regulations.
Minister Anywar directed National Environment Management Authority to resume restoration activities in all wetlands across the country.
The Board is appointed by the Minister for Water and Environment with the approval of cabinet for a three-year term.
The Board members are Prof James Okot-Okumu (Chairperson) and others are Dr. Priscilla Nyadoi, Dr Charles Ekure, Dr Florence Grace Adongo, Eng Katwiremu Yorokamu Bategana, Ms Christine Mayengo, Canon Amos Lapenga, and Jimmy Chemonges Kuka while Barirega Akankwasah serves as the Executive Director and Board Secretary.
