NEWS- The Police in Mitooma District have launched an investigation into the deaths of two individuals who were stabbed in the early hours of August 25, 2024. The tragic incident occurred at approximately 3:00 AM in Nyandago B village, Bwera Parish, Kanyabwanga Sub County, Mitooma District.
SSP Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the victims as Stephen Turyasingura, a security guard with Chita Company and a resident of Kikunyu Village, Kasheshero Sub County, Mitooma District, and Fortune Amutuhaire, an 11-year-old pupil in Primary 3 at Nyandago Primary School. Amutuhaire was the daughter of Asiimwe Sylvia.
The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Gerald Muhumuza, a resident of Rucence B village, Kanyabwanga Sub County, Mitooma District.
It is alleged that Asiimwe Sylvia was asleep with her lover, Turyasingura, and her daughter, Amutuhaire, when the assailant arrived and began knocking on the door. When Sylvia failed to open the door, the suspect broke in, went directly to the bedroom, and attempted to stab her. Sylvia managed to dodge the attack and ran outside, raising an alarm.
In the chaos, the suspect stabbed Turyasingura. Amutuhaire, who had woken up, followed her mother outside. The suspect chased after them and eventually caught up with Amutuhaire, stabbing her multiple times. By the time rescuers arrived, the assailant had fled the scene.
According to Vincent Mugisha, who reported the incident to the police, Turyasingura’s body was found by the roadside. Tumusiime stated that the bodies of the victims were taken to Mitooma Health Center IV for postmortem examination, and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
