NEWS– The Police in Mitooma district have arrested 5 men for allegedly stealing 11 cows from Kiruhura district.

The suspects are Asiimwe Coleb 35 years from Mbarara district, Byarugaba Alex 27 years from Kamwenge district, Adidas Brian 28 years from Mitooma district, Tuhirirwe Annet 52 years from Mitooma district and Nabasa David 23 years from Kiruhura district.

The suspects were arrested after police got information from Nyambwoha David 50, a defence secretary for Mitooma Cell, Mitooma ward IV, Mitooma Town council in Mitooma district.

Its reported that on 24th January 2024, information was received by Police that there were people suspected to have stolen cows from Kiruhura, brought them and offloaded them within a certain farm in Mitooma  and they were at the washing bay cleaning the vehicle as well as waiting to receive the money sold from cows. It’s at this point that a team of officers was dispatched, arrested the suspects and recovered six cows.

The case was registered and inquiries commenced at Mitooma CPS under reference number CRB 058/2024, statements recorded from some witnesses, motorvehicle reg No. UBD 853C Canter and motorcycle Reg No UFU 406B were impounded.

According to the driver (suspect) Nabasa David, a total of 11 cows were stolen from Kashongi in Kiruhura and 5 had already been offloaded from a yet to be established place in Mitooma district.

This website contacted the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesman SSP Martial Tumusiime who confirmed this incident stressing that inquiries are still at hand in liason with Kiruhura Police to establish the owner(s) of the cows and recover the remaining ones.
