Kigezi Region Police Spokesman Elly Maate has however said that 3 people have been arrested in connection with the murder and the suspects are Mwesigwa Rashid, Turinawe Beda and  Niwagaba Nicholas all residents of Buhara in Kabale District.

It’s alleged that in the night of 21st Jan 2025, at unknown time at Kigugo Village Buhara Sub-county in Kabale district, the suspects caused the death of Kawiti Africano.

One of the suspects Mwesigwa Rashid sold a piece of land approximately to the deceased some time back in 2023 at 4,000.000/= but after, started getting resistance from the family members to as why he sold the land at a very cheap price like that, the family asked him to rescue it back or else get them another piece of land which he failed to do.

It was then that the three suspects approached the buyer now deceased to return the land to them but he asked them to refund his money which unfortunately they never had to refund.

Maate said that the suspects resorted to threats and violence and use of force to regain back their land which gave birth to earlier offences of criminal trespass under reference number Buhara SD 06/07/10/2024 which was still under Investigations.

It’s reported that the suspects Turinawe Beda and Niwagaba Nicholas attacked the deceased and told him to leave the land their father Mwesigwa Rashid had sold to him that if he refuses he will die. After the said threats, the deceased went and reported to Mwesigwa and asked him together with his sons to stop threatening him and in the night of 21st January 2024, the deceased was murdered.

Maate said that a neighbour one Abe Julius is the one who discovered that he was dead and informed the area chairperson who reported the matter at Buhara Police station who informed the District CID officer Kabale who led a team of homicide and canine officers to the scene.

Upon reaching  the scene, canine dog was introduced to the scene that led the officers direct to the house of the suspects and were instantly arrested and the scene was visited, examined and documented and relevant statements were recorded from witnesses and a postmortem examination done.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had a long land dispute with the suspects and the body of the deceased was found with bruises and had internal bleeding and inquiries are still going on.
