NEWS– The Police in Rubanda District are investigating circumstances under which a 30 year old man identified as Bruno Tumukunde was lynched for allegedly theft of Irish potatoes.

It is reported that the suspect together  with Rogers Katusiime both residents of Matakara village Ikamiro parish Mukon Sub-county Rubanda district are alleged to have broken into the store of Adoniya Zikereta and stole eight bags of Irish potatoes worth Ugx 1.8 million.

The case was reported at Muko Police Station and the Officer in Charge Mahiirane Vincent who received a phone call from Matakara village, that two suspects had been arrested and the mob was beating them seriously.

The Police rushed to the scene and rescued them and took them to Muko Butare Health Center III for treatment where the nurse on duty feared to admit them because the local residents could still follow them and lynch them from there since they were renown habitual criminals.

Kigezi Region Police Spokesman Elly Maate who confirmed the incident said that as the Police were still in the process intending to take them to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital they realized that one of them, Tumukunde Bruno was dead.

Maate said that two case files of store breaking and theft of Irish potatoes plus that of murder by mob were registered and inquiries are ongoing and exhibits were recovered and the body was thereafter conveyed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examination and the second suspect Katusiime Rodgers was released on Police bond to the mother for medical attention.
