The Police in Kanungu District have registered a fatal accident that involved a motorvehicle registration number UBP 507E and motorcycle registration number UMA 758GW.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate confirmed the accident which took place yesterday afternoon at Kyakatarangyi area along Kihihi – Rukungiri road in Kihihi Sub-county in Kanungu District.
Maate identified the deceased as 32 year old Atuhaire Gerald mukiga, a resident Nyakiyaga Cell in Rwanga Ward in Kihihi Town Council in Kanungu District.
Maate explained that it’s alleged that the driver of the motor vehicle was coming from Rukungiri side heading towards Kihihi Town and when he reached Kyakatarangyi area, he left his lane and entered the opposite lane and had a headon collision with the motorcycle that was coming from the opposite direction of Kihihi heading to Rukungiri and the rider died on spot.
Maate attributed the single fatal accident to poor visibility due to heavy rain at the time of the accident and the scene was visited and documented by Kanungu District Traffic Officer Nsabiyera Herbert and team and the deceased’s body was conveyed to Kihihi Health Center IV for postmortem examination as investigations continue.
