KAMPALA- The Entebbe Municipality Member of Parliament Micheal Kakembo says that Ugandans should popularize their proposal to have the second runners-up in the National presidential election be the leader of the opposition.
Kakembo told the media at parliament that he supports Mityana County South MP, Richard Lumu kizito , to introduce a Private Member’s Bill entitled, “The Administration of Parliament Amendment Bill, 2024” for the leader of the opposition to be elected or amendments in the constitution like the second runners to become the ex-official member of parliament and assumes the office of the leader of the opposition.
He says that it is difficult for the person with majority opposition in parliament to lead the opposition while outside through the selected person as the leader of the opposition.
He says that some of the selected leaders of the opposition harbor selfish interests, saying this would stop accusations of compromise while advancing some important issues in parliament.
He proposed that when the second runners-up through the presidential election goes to parliament as the leader of the opposition should be granted five years as the president of the ruling party to avoid being interrupted in his term of office.
