Rukiga District leaders have extended assessment and monitoring of water and electricity extension projects to Kibanda Parish after Kyogo, both in Kamwezi Sub county Rukiga District.

During the inspection, Rukiga Woman Member of Parliament, Hon Dr Sylvia Alinaitwe Tumuheirwe, called on leaders to closely monitor the Kyogo- Kibanda water project to ensure its timely completion.

She made the call during a joint field monitoring tour with Rukiga County Member of Hon Patrick Kiconco Katabazi and the District Chairman Simon Rwamagyenda.

The multi billion shilling project, funded by National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) started three years ago.

It comprises a borehole and pumping station in Nyarurigata Village, Kyogo Parish, which will pump water to two twin reservoirs with a capacity of 160,000 litres per hour constructed on top of the hill in Nyamabare Cell.

The project is intended to extend clean and safe water to Kyogo and Kibanda parishes, which have never been connected to the national water grid.

According to Rukiga National Water and Sewerage Corporation Manager Shine Bone, the project is nearing completion and is only awaiting electricity connection, with operations expected to start by December 2026.

Dr Alinaitwe assured the community that electricity connection is imminent and urged residents to guard and protect the infrastructure, saying it is a major government investment aimed at improving livelihoods and driving the population into middle income status in line with the NRM Manifesto 2026-2031.

The monitoring exercise was also attended by the Resident District Commissioner Zadoki Kamusiime, the District Police Commander and Kamwezi Sub county LC 3 Chairperson Tedson Niwagaba among other leaders.
