KAMPALA- The Member of Parliament for Nyendo-Mukungwe Hon. Mathias Mpuuga has unveiled plans to introduce several constitutional amendments starting next week.
While speaking to the media at parliament, Mpuuga said that the amendments will focus on key areas, including the Presidential Elections Act, Parliamentary Elections Act, and Electoral Commissions Act.
The Parliamentary Commissioner, proposed to push for the Referendum on the polling day whereby whoever comes to vote for the president and members of parliament cast his or vote on some of his proposals that require a referendum like having the upper and lower parliament.
He said that he is going to write to the speaker of parliament so that he is included on the order paper to seek leave to introduce his amendments next week.
Mpuuga proposed amendments to have the vice president with executive powers as running mate with the president but chosen from another region where the president does not come from.
Other Mpuuga’s propels include reducing the size of parliament, having the Ugandans in diaspora vote at polling stations at Uganda’s embassies on voting day, return of presidential term limits.

Mpuuga also wants the district returning officer to declare both the results of the president and the members of parliament and then transmit them to the chairperson of the electoral commission.

The Nyendo-Mukungwe legislator also proposed to have an amendment where any voter can petition the court to challenge Presidential election results to cure the problem where the candidates are put under house arrest when are supposed to challenge results.
