KAMPALA – Being able to communicate or speak the same language with someone else brings that swift connection with the other party even if you are not of the same race. This is a strong indicator for the power of languages as a great pillar in unity, social and economic development.
As a steadfast learning institution and a trailblazer in business studies, Makerere University Business School (MUBS) has rolled out 7th March as date for the second edition of the Languages Festival 2024.
This was after a great testament of their maiden edition that yielded positive responses in regards to benefits of the festival. The theme for the second edition is “Youth Preparedness for Multilingualism and its opportunities” and this is looked at as a driver for business in a global dynamic world.
Speaking at the presser that was held last week at Onomo Hotel in Kampala, Head of Department Business languages and International Relations, Dr. Abbey Mutumba (PhD) said that we are living in a world of multilingualism which is a good thing for business because it creates the best way of communication.
He also promised that the festival is going to be a win – win situation for all that will get on board and he urged everyone to get ready for the festival that will commence on 4th March with Soccer then the big deal on 7th March 2024.
Dr. Mutumba added that we should not neglect our local languages such as Runyankore, Luganda, Acholi, Runyoro and the rest at the expense of the international ones but strike a balance.
On behalf of the partners, Ivan Twine, Sales and Marketing Manager, Onomo Hotel Kampala, expressed his gratitude to the organizers of the festival for fronting languages since they are directly linked to the hotel and tourism industry which their brand is inclined to.
“We are honored to partner again as a brand and as you are aware, we have 22 hotels in the African continent and our headquarters are in Casablanca which has clear indications that languages is our thing and looking forward to other forthcoming editions” He added.
At the same event, Isaac Katende representing Tropical Bank and his team handed over a dummy cheque of Ugx.1, 500, 000 towards the organization of the festival as an esteemed partner.
He also noted that they are willing to work with forward -thinking Institutions like Makerere University Business School and are not planning to stop any time.
The languages festival which is organized by MUBS under the Faculty of Tourism , Hospitality and Languages with department of Business Languages will focus on mainly five languages such as French, German, Arabic , Kiswahili, Chinese and have many others get on board gradually with participation from primary to tertiary Institutions of learning.
