NEWS- The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni has praised Hon. Peter Ogwang, the State Minister for Sports for his tireless efforts in developing the sports sector in Uganda.
Her remarks came during the commissioning of the Akii Bua stadium in Lira City, a project that underscores the government’s commitment to promoting sports in the country.
“I would like to thank my colleague, my son Hon. Peter Ogwang for being passionate about developing sports in Uganda by ensuring this dream comes to reality,” Maama Janet Museveni said while acknowledging his hard work and commitment to excellence in driving progress in the sports sector.”
The Akii Bua stadium, named after Uganda’s first Olympic gold medalist, is a state-of-the-art multipurpose facility that will provide a platform for athletes to hone their skills and compete at the highest level.
With a budget of $129 million, the stadium’s construction is a significant investment in Uganda’s sports infrastructure which seating capacity of over 20,000 people.
Maama Janet Museveni’s praise for Hon. Ogwang is a testament to his efforts in promoting sports development in Uganda.
As the State Minister for Sports, Ogwang has been at the forefront of initiatives aimed at improving sports infrastructure, promoting talent development and enhancing Uganda’s competitiveness in regional and international sports competitions.
The commissioning of the Akii Bua stadium marks a major milestone in Uganda’s sports development journey especially as the country is preparing for the AFCIN 2027.
Speaking to the press, Minister Peter Ogwang expressed his happiness to the President and the First Lady for their commitment in fulfilling the long awaited pledge of Akii Bua stadium.
