Sharifah Buzeki has expressed her readiness to tackle Kampala’s challenges, committing to collaborative work with Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and his team. Buzeki made the pledge shortly after taking the oath as executive director of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).
The function, held at City Hall, was witnessed by technical and political leaders at KCCA. Buzeki said she will work hard to transform the image of the city by ensuring efficient delivery of public services like garbage collection, working on the drainage system and solving the traffic congestion issue.
She takes over from Dorothy Kisaka who was sacked after only three years in office following the Kiteezi landfill collapse in September last year that killed more than 30 people. She said one of her first obligations would be to acquire land for waste management. “We will fight the battle and acquire land, but we must adopt new models and develop methods to reduce pressure on the landfill,” she said.
Frank Rusa, who served as acting ED of KCCA after Kisaka’s ouster, said the new team needs to find solutions to problems of street children and the crisis at garbage management.
