The National Resistance Movement party leaders led by Dr Rosemary Sseninde have commenced a series of strategic parish-based meetings in Kikuube district as campaigns in the Kikuube LC 5 by-election begin and the ruling party is fronting Paddy Kisembo as their flag bearer in this by-election race.
The by-election shall be held on June 18th, 2026, following the death of Peter Banura Araali, who died in a car accident in April 2026.
The engagement today in Kikuube Town Council featured party executive and campaign task force members who were urged to prioritise due diligence and commitment to ensure the success of campaigns.
“There is very little time left to conduct campaigns, so we shall focus most of our energies on rallying and delegating party leaders in various parishes to extend the campaign gospel to village leaders who will reach out to the voters directly in the villages. “Let us do our best to win back this seat,” Hon Sseninde said.
Hon Sseninde said the Kikuube party leadership has been trusted with the mandate to do all it takes by President Museveni, who is also the NRM National Chairman, to reclaim the district chairman seat.
The parish-based mobilisation is expected to be very successful, just like it contributed a lot to the victory of NRM in the general elections.
“The deliberate scientific and calculative strategy will attract as many members as possible,” Dr Seninde said as she appealed to party leaders in a planning meeting.
She reiterated, “we are counting on the efforts of each party leader right from the district, sub-county, parish and village level to pull the population to our cause so as to achieve our target of 50,000 votes in this by-election, and I believe we shall achieve that target.”
The NRM candidate Paddy Kisembo said his campaign message will focus more on how to improve the household incomes of the people of Kikuube through enhanced productivity and value addition on agricultural products grown within the district.
“I have acquired a lot of experience in export trading and fertiliser manufacturing and intend to use my leadership to help the population to improve their incomes,” Kisembo said.
He also committed to utilise the government road unit to open the feeder road in the village to ensure smooth transportation of goods and services within the district.
The Kikuube district woman member of parliament, Hon Florence Natukunda, urged the NRM members and leaders to remain united.
“I know we nominated a different candidate from the one who was elected in the primaries due to challenges in the academic qualifications of the previous flag bearer. I pray for calmness among supporters of the previous flag bearer and ask them to throw all the weight behind the nominated candidate. NRM is a bigger and stronger family; I urge the party members and the population to fully embrace, campaign and vote for Mr Kisembo in the by-election,” Hon Natukunda said.
Kisembo is in the race with one opposition candidate.
