NEWS- Nurses and midwives in Uganda under their umbrella the Uganda Nurses and midwives Union have demanded their salary increament balance from the government.

This call was made by Mr. Justus Cherop Kiplangat the President of the Uganda Nurses and midwives Union during his speech at the commemoration of the international day of Nurses and midwives held at Rukungiri municipality in Southern Division Rukungiri municipality.

According to Cherop Kiplangat, the union had a salary increament bargain meeting with the government that saw their salaries enhanced but left 4% increament balance which has never been talked about till today.

The nurses and midwives president also hinted on the need to have specialized health courses in Uganda which he said is hindering service delivery.

Cherop called for the expansion of the health sector, recruitment of more nurses and midwives and other health workers stressing that they are the centre of saving lives and should therefore be treated with respect they deserve.

“The health centre should be well preserved and restructured for the goodness of the people of Uganda”, he added.

However, Mr. Cherop thanked the government for increasing their salaries though they haven’t reached the agreed the ground.

According to Cherop, Nurses and midwives constitute over 70 % of health work force in Uganda and should therefore be given effective motivation if they are to improve the health of Ugandans.
