NEWS– The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is making life a bit harder for thieves and vandals.
In Soroti last week, the NWSC team, working with security agencies, nabbed vandals stealing components of supply mains.
During the same week, the courts sentenced vandals Paul and Abas to the “coolers” for theft of water meters.
In a post on X, NWSC said, “We are working with security agencies to nab the vandals who are stealing our customer meters.”
According to NWSC, vandals cause no water situations that affect customer supply.
“Seen something in your area? Report it to the nearest NWSC service center or police station,” reads part of the post.
It should be remembered that in Kampala city last year, the theft of water meters was reportedly rife in the divisions of Nakawa, Rubaga and Makindye.
According to the victims, the vandalism was being done between 2:00 am and 4:00 am, when the owners are fast asleep.
Habibah Nabukenya, one of the victims of this vice, is a businesswoman, residing in Kitebi, Rubaga division. She lost a water meter two weeks ago. In the same locality, Nabukenya says more than 10 homes were evaded and the meters taken.
