RUKUNGIRI- As Christians all over the world commemorated Easter Sunday, it was double joy at Nyabitete Archdeaconry in Buyanja Sub County under North Kigezi Diocese in Rukungiri District as they held their first service in the under construction magnificent church.
Today’s Easter celebration in their newly constructed state-of-the-art church, marked a significant milestone for the congregation and the entire church community. The event was attended by numerous congregants and dignitaries, all gathered to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ in a setting that embodies modern worship.
A Message of Hope and Resilience
The day was made even more special by the presence of guest preacher Canon Rachel Harris from Ipswich, UK, under the Friends Of North Kigezi Network. In her moving sermon, Canon Harris enlightened the congregation on the profound meaning of Easter. She emphasized how Jesus endured immense suffering and pain for humanity’s well-being, ultimately conquering death through His resurrection. Her words resonated deeply with those present, reminding them of the hope and renewal that Easter represents.
Harris’ message was not only a reflection on Jesus’ sacrifices but also a call to the congregation to embrace their faith with renewed vigor.
“Easter is not just a celebration; it is a reminder of the incredible love that Jesus has for each of us,” she stated. Her passionate delivery inspired many to reflect on their personal journeys of faith, encouraging them to find strength in their beliefs.
A Vision Realized
The new church, which has become a focal point of the Nyabitete Archdeaconry, is a testament to the efforts and dedication of various stakeholders in the community. Dennis Katwijukye Kifaaku, the head of Nyabitete Archdeaconry Christians in Kampala, was particularly commended for his foundational role in the church’s development. His vision and leadership have been instrumental in bringing the project to fruition, and he expressed gratitude for the support received from both local and international partners.
“This church is not just a building; it is a place where we can gather, worship, and grow together as a community,” Kifaaku remarked during the celebration. He also acknowledged the contributions of various individuals and organizations that have played a pivotal role in the construction process.
Kifaaku assured the attendees that he would rally his friends and network to expedite the remaining construction work. “We have come this far, and I am committed to ensuring that this church is completed in the shortest time possible,” he declared, igniting a sense of urgency and enthusiasm among the congregation.

Rallying for Completion
As the church nears completion, Ven. Enock Karamuzi, the Archdeacon of Nyabitete and Former North Kigezi Diocesan Secretary called for continued support to finalize the project. He noted the importance of having the church ready by August 10, when the Bishop is scheduled to visit for a ceremonial stone-laying event.
“We are on the brink of achieving something great, but we need your help to cross the finish line,” Karamuzi urged the congregation.
A Community United in Faith
