Nyamiti PS Parents reject new headteacher over alleged poor performance

There is confusion at Nyamiti Government Aided Primary School in Nyamiti ward, Muhorro town council in Kagadi district, following the rejection of the newly appointed head teacher- Night Karali.

At the beginning of First term on February,10, the Kagadi district education department transferred Charles Tumusiime, the former head teacher to Butumba P/S.He was replaced with Meridah Tuhaise in acting capacity.

After less than 3 weeks of Ms.Tuhaiase’s deployment at the said school, another newly appointed headteacher to the school Night Karali also reported for duty today morning.

However, the transfer of Night Karali to Nyamiti P/S has drawn strong opposition from parents of the school led by Peter Kyalingonza, the school’s PTA chairperson, the leaders of Nyamiti COU, the foundation body of the school and local leaders.

They accuse Karali of being a poor performer. They have also accused her of indiscipline and indecent dressing in public.

The parents have asked the heads of Kagadi district Education department to retain Meridah Tuhaise as the head teacher of the school, saying that she has already demonstrated traits of hard work and good performance for the few weeks, she has served at the school.

Owinyi Samuel Baker, the Head of Laity Kahyoro COU, also aligned with parents to protest the transfer of Night Karali to Nyamiti P/S, and asked the Kagadi district education department to deploy her elsewhere.

Haji Abdalla Rukyarekere, the Secretary for Education Muhorro Town Council local government, also rejected Ms. Night’s appointment, saying the school’s progress will decline under a non-performing head teacher.

Beatrice Mbabazi, the Acting District Education Officer (DEO),Kagadi has accused parents of Nyamiti P/S for acting on rumours to reject the substantive headteacher posted to their school.

She says they would have given her a benefit of doubt to serve and prove her performance capabilities.

Mbabazi however says they will recall the rejected headteacher to the education department as she waits for new assignment of duty.
