NEWS- A total of 396 people from the opposition parties including the Forum for Democratic Change FDC and National Unity Platform NUP have so far defected to the ruling National Resistance Movement- NRM a period between September 2023 to February 2024.
It should be noted that on September 16, 2023 a total of 120 people, most of them from FDC party in Kitabu sub-county crossed to the NRM party at a function that was held at Kabimba Church of Uganda.
On December 29, 2023, a total of 16 people most of them from FDC and NUP in greater Kisinga and Kitabu sub-counties defected to the NRM party and subsequently handed over their cards to the Minister of State for ICT and National Guidance, Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga Kiime and they were received at Farmland Resort in Kisinga sub-county.
On January 10, 2024, a total of 120 people from FDC party all hailing from Kisinga Town Council and Kisinga sub-county defected to NRM party and they were received at Kisinga Vocational Secondary school in Kisinga town council.
And in the month of February 2024, a total of 120 people from FDC and NUP opposition political parties, hailing from Kinyamaseke town council, Munkunyu and Kisinga sub-counties crossed to the ruling NRM party at a function which was held at Cardinal Nsubuga Memorial Secondary school in Munkunyu sub-county.
Both converts at Kabimba C.O.U, Kisinga Vocational S.S, and at Cardinal Nsubuga Memorial S.S, were received by the NRM chairperson for Bukonzo County East and a parliamentary hopeful, Dr Julius Bwambale Monday Rude who later handed them over to the Kasese District NRM Chairperson, Dr Chrispus Kiyonga to commission them as official party members.
Asked what could have motivated FDC and NUP supporters to defect to the ruling National Resistance Movement- NRM and why his constituency has recorded high number of converts, in an exclusive interview with our Reporter, the NRM party chairperson in the constituency, Dr Rude quickly attributed the achievement to the party’s cohesion, mobilization skills and strategies as well as the good leadership of the NRM party in Kasese district.
He further said that even though Bukonzo County East is well known to be dominated by the FDC members and supporters, but according to him, they have started realizing and feeling the best service delivery from the central government as well as mindset change.
Speaking to our Reporter in a joyful mood, Dr Rude did not hide to mention some of the achievements in the constituency funded by the central government of Uganda in the last two and half years ranging from the infrastructures to socioeconomic transformation.
And among them include the four multi-billion bridges on river Kanyampara, River Kajwenge, River Rwembyo and River Nyamugasani which he said will ease transportation of agricultural products from hard to reach areas to the lower lands for market hence development as well as the disbursement of the ongoing Parish Development Model- PDM funds.
He, however, called upon the NRM chairpersons, their executive members and NRM supporters to massively popularize and own all government programs and projects within the constituency in order to benefit the local people.
