NEWS- Over Ugx 10 .7 million and 27 bags of cement were raised in both cash and pledges at the fundraising of Rukungiri primary school in Southern Division, Rukungiri municipality.
According to Silagi Kiconco the school head teacher, the fundraising ceremony was aimed at raising funds to construct a classroom block to accommodate the rising number of learners at their school.
Kiconco revealed that their school being a government aided School under Islamic religion, the school still faces a number of challenges like insufficient classrooms, inadequate furniture, lack of a library and absence of teachers’ accommodations.
The head teacher added that they are looking forward to constructing one class roomblock and to buy shutters for other classes which have open windows that affect them during certain weather conditions.

Saleh Turyamurebe, the chairperson of the school management committee stressed that there is a need for parents to support their school especially the business community since it’s in the middle of the town.
Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa the Rukungiri Municipality legislator while speaking as the chief guest at the fundraising ceremony he asked teachers and parents to cooperate together to support the education of their children.
Rutahigwa further asked head teacher teachers and the school authorities to create team work which will enable them to improve the performance of the school and development saying he has supported all schools irrespective of religion as one way to improve the education sector in Rukungiri municipality on behalf of the government.

Sheik Abdul Malik Byaruhanga Kayole the Rukungiri district Muslim Kadhi said there is a need for parents to support the school administration towards its development if it’s to take a step forward like schools of religious background.
Abdul Malik Byaruhanga further appreciated the chief guest, the Rukungiri Municipality legislator Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa who supported them much and other guests who contributed towards the fundraising of their schools.

The former Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament Hon. Mugume Roland Kaginda told the parents that as Rukungiri Municipality leaders, they need to cooperate together to develop Rukungiri municipality.

The fundraising was attended by different dignitaries like Moslems from Kanungu led by the Kanungu district Kadhi Sheik Abudalah Mpabuka , Ntungamo Muslims, business community, Boona FM Director Maanige Wenceslas, political leaders among others.
