NEWS- Just days after the Uganda National Teachers Union UNATU through their secretary General Filbert Baguma Bates issued a letter to the public service over salary enhancement, the public service has responded to the cause.
In a letter dated 10th September 2024 directed to Mr. Filbert Baguma Bates, Lucy Nakyobe Mbonye the Head of public service and secretary to the cabinet acknowledged the receipt of the UNATU letter and thanked them for the patience exhibited.
Nakyobe requested for more time to enable them ( public service and cabinet) to make necessary consultations.
The Head of public service and secretary to the cabinet promised to then thereafter cause a meeting to resolve the issues raised by the umbrella UNATU.
“We request for more time to enable us make necessary consultations and thereafter cause a meeting to resolve the raised issues” part of the letter read.
In their letter, UNATU accused the government of failure to implement what they had agreed in a Collective Bargaining Agreement CBA that was to see teachers salaries enhanced in a phased manner from the financial year 2018/19 to 2022/23.
The teachers umbrella asked the government to honor their agreed before they would put their tools down in an industrial action.
