Parts of the shattered motorcycle involved in accident

NEWS- The Police in Rukungiri District are hunting for a motorcyclist who caused an accident that resulted into death of one person and another one critically injured on Tuesday evening.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the accident that took place yesterday January 4th at Kakirago village in Bugangari Sub-county along Rukungiri – Kihihi highway in Rukungiri district.

Maate told journalists that the accident involved motorcycle registration number UFW 472E  ridden by yet to be unidentified person.

Maate identified the deceased as 38 year old Nabasa Ndoshore a resident of Nyakinengo village in Bugangari Sub-county who was a pedestrian and died on the spot while the other victim is 23 year old Nawurira Erias a casual labourer resident of Rumira village in Bugangari Sub-county, who was a passenger on the same motorcycle.

Maate explained that it’s alleged that while the rider of the motorcycle was ridding from the direction of Rukungiri Town heading to the direction of Bikurungu, that’s when he knocked the pedestrian dead on spot who was crossing the road and one other passenger on the same motorcycle injured as the rider took off and abandoned the motorcycle.

Maate said that when the Police were informed, they visited the scene and documented it and the wreckage of the Motorcycle was retrieved and is parked at Rukungiri Central Police Station pending IoV inspection.

The Police also retrieved the body of the deceased and took it to Rwakabengo Health Centre IV Mortuary for postmortem examination while the survivor victim was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Maatee said that preliminary investigations indicate that the primary cause of the accident was over speeding by the rider.
