Nabbanja in New York

NEW YORK – The Prime Minister of Uganda Rt. Hon. Nabbanja Robinah has challenged World leaders especially the United Nations to prioritize Youth affairs for sustainability in the development agenda.

Nabbanja made the remarks this afternoon while opening high level meeting organized by African Union, United Nations and Uganda’s permanent mission in New York.

The high level Africa Youth Forum is on the margins of the summit of the future.

Nabbanja says that On July 5, 2022, President Museveni reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to the African Youth Charter, directing the establishment of a National Steering Committee to oversee its implementation.

She says that the youthful African population should be seen as a resource rather than a challenge or burden.

Nabbanja says that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni remains a steadfast advocate for initiatives that promote Africa’s economic growth and prosperity.

The special presidential envoy on youth affairs Daniel Obal demanded that the United Nations do more to empower the youth because they have been left behind.

Several presenters during the discussions made it clear that youth involvement is key for sustainable development.

The presenters included Prudence Ngwenya, the director women, gender and youth affairs at African Union commission, Ahuuna Eziakonwa UNDP Assisatnt administrator and regional director for Africa among others.

At the meeting Uganda’s foreign affairs Minister Jjeje Odongo and his deputy Okello Oryem also addressed the youths.
