NEWS- The Prime Minister of Uganda Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja has arrived in the Kingdom of Tonga an island State in the Pacific Region for a working visit representing President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the 53rd Pacific Island Forum Leaders meeting.
On arrival in the State of Tonga yesterday, Prime Minister Nabbanja was received by Uganda ’s High Commissioner to Australia Dorothy Hyuha who also oversees the Kingdom of Tonga and 9 other countries in the Pacific Region at Naku- Alofa Fua-Amotu International Airport.
The Prime Minister was treated to a dinner with other guests from other parts of the world attended by the Chief Prince of Tonga and his wife and she will participate in several bi-lateral meetings including delivering a message from President Museveni to the Prime Minister of Tonga.
The 53rd Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting hosted by Tonga and chaired by the Prime Minister of Tonga, Hon Hu’akavemeiliku Siaosi Sovaleni will run from from 27th-30th August 2024.
The Pacific Islands Forum Leaders meet annually to develop collective responses to regional issues and deliver on their vision for a resilient Pacific Region of peace, harmony, security, social inclusion and prosperity, that ensures all Pacific peoples can lead free, healthy and productive lives.
Leaders convene, engage in discussions and agree on policies that will ultimately benefit the people of the region and this gathering is a unique opportunity for Leaders to address pressing issues and challenges facing the Blue Pacific Continent, and foster collaboration and cooperation in the pursuit of shared goals.
Tonga Kingdom located in the Pacific Region is popular for their male Traditional dressing in skirts and the people of Tonga are also famous world wide in the game of Rugby because they are physically giant strongmen and women and the population of Tonga is estimated to be about 100,000 people only.
The Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres is expected to grace and address the meeting among other important dignitaries.
